The Islington Primary Care Trust is the local body responsible for improving the health of the local community through primary care services in the borough. This includes services provided by doctors (GP's), dentists, pharmacists and opticians.
A major aim of the trust is to reduce health inequality in the borough and to promote good health for all residents. To do this it works with a range of voluntary and community organisations to reach and involve Islington's diverse communities.
In some cases the primary trusts funds organisations to deliver programmes and services or work on particular projects. It currently spends £3.5m through the local health action zone fund for example on such projects.
