Specialist Support Organisations

Community Legal Services Direct offer a free and comprehensive online and telephone legal advice service that covers most areas of law. Also allows you to calculate whether you are eligible for legal aid and to find advice agencies and solicitors across Islington and the rest of the country.

Islington Law Centre provides free legal advice and assistance to people who live, work or study in the London Borough of Islington. They have a specific commitment to people on a low income and to assist in those areas of law where no Legal Help is available.

Multi Kulti provide detailed support information in the areas of debt, employment, health, housing, immigration and welfare benefits. The web site is multi-lingual and you can choose to browse in the language of your choice.

Islington Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) offers advice in a broad range of areas including welfare benefits, housing, consumer problems, employment, tax, debt and money, divorce and relationships.

Islington Council Housing Aid Centre gives advice to Islington residents with housing problems. This includes people in private accommodation. Advice covers a range of issues including eviction, harassment, homelessness and mediation.

Islington Council Trading Standards offer advice on consumer and contract law matters to residents, businesses and visitors to the borough.

Disability Action in Islington provide advice and information for disabled people and their families and carers on all disability issues except benefits - although they will be able to refer you to a specialist agency for this. The organisation is run by and for disabled people.

      Advisory Centre for Education (ACE) give advice to parents on state education including dealing with issues such as exclusion, bullying, special educational needs and school admission appeals.

Alone in London provide advice, advocacy, support and counselling for vulnerable young people. They offer help in a range of areas including employment and training, as well as housing and welfare benefits. Alone in London runs a number of housing projects for homeless young people.

CARILA Latin American Welfare Group give advice, information and interpreting service for people from the Latin American community. Advice is available on welfare benefits, housing, employment, education and health.

Islington Mind offer information, advice and advocacy to people with mental health problems. They also have an employment and training project and a counselling service.

Islington Women's Aid provide an advice and support service for women. They give a broad range of advice including topics such as injunctions, children's issues, welfare benefits, housing, counselling, training and employment. Islington Women's Aid also helps women who are facing domestic violence and they have a number of refuges for women and their children.

Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants (JCWI) provides free legal advice and casework on immigration, nationality and asylum matters. The service is for individuals as well as agencies and community groups.

Stonewall Housing Advice Service provide advice, information and advocacy services for lesbians and gay men on housing issues.
